A Border Collie Named Ruby: The Puppy Days

By Char Shields - March 18, 2017

So, I was looking back at old photos on my computer and I found puppy photos of my dog, Ruby (click to read my last post about her).

For a light-hearted post, I thought it would be great to share some of them. These photos hold a lot of beautiful, wonderful and hilarious memories for me. They tell the story of Ruby's puppy days perfectly.

Starting right back from her first day with us, at just 7 weeks old.

And seeing how adorably small she was! She couldn't even get on the sofa, we had to help her up!

And then when she did get on the sofa, she found that it was a long way down so she did this cute leap off it and fell flat on her face every time. She was a very energetic pup, she was always running around, being playful or getting up to some mischief. But of course, she was just a little puppy so she needed a lot of sleep! She looked adorable sleeping, of course.

She rarely slept in her bed back then, but she did sleep in these weird places...

 Behind the bookcase...
On a shelf in the kitchen...

On the TV stand...

Even on top of the DVD player! But probably the cutest of all was probably that time I walked into my room to find her curled up in my quilt (which was on the floor)...

I always wanted to take selfies with her but she hated having her photo taken! So I had to get them when she was really sleepy, this was when she didn't have the energy to run off or smack the phone out of my hand (shout out to my 16 year old self in these pictures).

She was thrilled, as you can see.

And when I had to say goodbye to my beloved slippers, she had them straight away! We had to keep all shoes out of sight and reach from her otherwise she would destroy them. But, when we wanted to get rid of old shoes, we knew who to give them to! I still struggle to own a pair of slippers to this day.

And here she is today...

She is now 3 years old and will be turning 4 in June! She has grown so much but is actually still considered small for a border collie. She went through a phase of looking like a fox because she was fully grown but was still super skinny, she has filled out now though and is a happy and healthy dog.

She was an adorable and energetic puppy and has now grown into a beautiful, smart, loving and caring dog with her own crazy personality that everybody loves.

Always appreciate your dog, they love us more than we could ever imagine or deserve. Give them lots of cuddles and attention. Spend time with them, take them for amazing walks and adventures, take the time to play with them and create wonderful memories with them. I can't wait until I get back to Cornwall so I can give my dog lots of cuddles; I have missed her so much!

Until the next time,
